Safe and sound protocol
A unique therapeutic method for regulating the nervous system
  • If you want to make the world a better place, give people a sense of safety."
    — Stephen Porges, author of Polyvagal Theory.
Sound is one of the most important components of the human experience. It connects with emotions and directly influences our state
Music is a set of specific acoustic frequencies. How we react to music is determined by the same neural circuits that we use when assessing risk in the environment.
For example, low-frequency sounds evoke a sense of danger associated with the approach of a predator, while high-frequency sounds are linked with signals of a natural disaster
Safe and sound (eng.) — The phrase "safe and sound" is an idiomatic expression that means being in a secure and unharmed condition, especially after a potentially dangerous or risky situation. It emphasizes both safety (freedom from harm) and well-being (overall health or state of mind). For example, if someone returns home after a difficult journey, they might be described as "safe and sound.

Exploring how music influences the vagus nerve, Stephen Porges developed a non-invasive method of impacting the muscle—the tensor tympani— which simultaneously affects the tension of the eardrum, normalizing it and tuning it to the perception of human speech, thereby directly influencing the autonomic nervous system in terms of sound perception.

SSP protocol is designed to help improve emotional and social engagement by addressing the functioning of the autonomic nervous system

Regulation of emotional state

Lowering levels of anxiety and stress, treating depression. Assistance in establishing and maintaining close relationships
Recovery after trauma
Reduction of symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD)
Neuroplasticity support
Development of the brain's capacity to adapt and change according to current life conditions
Improvement of overall physical health
Normalization of sleep and treatment of psychosomatic disorders
How does therapy proceed?
The provider obtains the client's consent, after which a profile is created for them in a special program.

The client downloads an app on their smartphone, receives instructions, and begins listening to musical fragments in a specific sequence and according to a certain schedule

minimum technical requirements
Over-ear headphones + any smartphone to which the app is downloaded.
remote therapy
It is possible (ideally it is necessary) to listen to the audio in a home environment.
small time expenditures
For the session, it is sufficient to spend from 30 minutes to an hour a day. No more than five sessions are conducted in a course, and the course itself is repeated no more than once every three months
SUPPORT
Assistance from the therapist on any questions that arise
individual therapy > SAFE AND SOUND PROTOCOL
Two in-person online sessions: introductory and concluding, lasting 30-60 minutes each.

Access to the program for 5-10 days (depending on your pace of therapy)

175 euro
We meet online; I explain the essence of the therapy, conduct a diagnosis, and provide instructions on how to use the app (you will only need to install the app on your phone, and also have over-ear headphones, as AirPods are not suitable).

You will proceed with the therapy course at your own pace (1 hour of listening per day; you can do this every day, or take a break for a day or two).

During this period, I will be available to answer your questions.

We conduct a concluding session and a second diagnosis, discussing the results. If necessary, I provide recommendations for further work.

Neurologist, body-oriented psychotherapist, certified provider of SSP (Safe and Sound Protocol
I have been studying the functioning of the autonomic nervous system since 2000. In my opinion, it receives undeservedly little attention in Russian and international medical and psychological schools.

Several years ago, I became acquainted with Stephen Porges' Polyvagal Theory, which has been a true revelation for me, as it provided the key to working with trauma at a deeper and more qualitative level!

Since 2020, I have been a regular participant in educational seminars held on the platform of the Polyvagal Theory Institute in the USA.

Since 2022, I have been one of the first certified providers of SSP (Safe and Sound Protocol—a polyvagal-based method for working with the vagus nerve) in Russia and Greece
